Android Like iOS, Why Not?

Android is one of the most famous smartphone operating system in the world right now and that’s for a reason. The fact that Android started from the bottom, an through the latter's, to its place right now, is an amazing thing, and although its having a lot of competition from iOS, which is the OS from Apple that operates all of its devices starting from the iPhone through the iPod (wait is the iPod still available?) all the way to the iPad, Android still hold his position really well.

I’m an Android user purely, I’ve used Android my whole life, I had an iPhone before, and now I have an iPad, so I also used iOS, and I’m still using it right now, so I think I can do a really good comparison between the two operating systems. This topic always get people angry, and it would go into huge discussions, about which one of the two OS’s is betters, just go and open YouTube, and type Android vs. iOS, just watch these videos, and read the comments, you’ll get what I’m talking about. Now let’s get back to the usage of the two systems, as I said, I’m currently using the two systems, as android on my phone and I own an iPad, an I’m going to come out and say, I consider Android much better than iOS, now wait a second don’t get mad iOS users, it’s just that Android has the ability to perform a lot of things that iOS can’t do, Android, gives you the ability of a super user, you can much do anything on it, the power of the software, the customization, the freedom to do anything on the OS, all these things gives you the power of a super user.

I’m not going to say that iOS is bad, actually it’s pretty good, I own my iPad since 3 years now, and I can’t complain about it, it’s fast, responsive, has a really good display to watch on and I can go much more about it, but what I like more about the OS is that it’s much better in terms of stability, the times that my iPad got stuck, or just stopped working because of a problem, I can count it on my hand, it’s amazing how much iOS is really that stable, I think this is the best feature about, maybe they don’t talk about it that much these recent times, but period this it’s best feature, unlike Android which I believe that it has to get stuck or just freeze like 1–3 times a week, it’s like this is something that it has to do once a while. Another thing that I like about iOS, is that no matter how much Apple updates their devices, the updates works just fine, you don’t have that much problems that you have on Android, when you just update your phone, and you notice so much hung ups and glitches and to top it off, no matter how much your Apple device gets updated whether it’s an iPhone or an iPad, it doesn’t slow down that much, it feels snappy like you just bought it for the first time, since I got my iPad 3 years, it got updated like a million times and it still works fast and snappy, unlike my android phone which I got it a year and a half after I got my iPad, got updated only once, and even the security updates that I was supposed to receive on a monthly basis has stopped, and now I feel my phone is like much slower than the day that I bought it. It feels like when you update an android device its speed gets dropped by 50%, unlike iOS devices which feels fast no matter how many times you update it.

Maybe iOS is not as easy to use like Android, especially on the customization segment, although that started to change little by little since the iOS 14 update as they introduced widgets and an app drawer, which are features that has been on android for like the longest time ever, as I said Android is really easy to use, and anyone one can just pick up an android phone and just use it. I can say that the times that people came to me asking about doing certain things on iOS, was much more than people who came to me asking about doing certain things on Android. And the fact that you can customize android, and make it pretty much your own device, gives it an edge over iOS on this segment, as you can pretty much change anything on Android, even its usability.

Different Approaches

When you create something, you always have a, let say a reason or an approach or even a goal that you want to achieve during the creation of that thing, and that also applies here to OS’s. If you noticed Android and iOS has pretty much different approaches, anyone has used the two OS’s can tell that they are both built with different approaches. Let’s start with iOS, a lot of people maybe noticed this, but Apple always aimed at the stability with all of its OS’s, and that includes iOS, the fact that the UI is more settle, streamed line, with little way of customization (Although that started to change last year), and with everything on the OS is controlled by Apple, gives you right away the conclusion that iOS is aimed toward stability and security, that’s one of the reasons that makes Apple devices upgradable for longer periods of time (my iPad is Air 2 version, it’s one of the most oldest iPads ever and still it’s getting the latest iOS15 update), also the privacy on this system is unrivaled by any other system, and its apps are more compatible with the devices and are way more stable than Android apps.

As for Android, you can say that it is made toward the customization and giving the power to the user to control it as he please. This is why Android is not stable as iOS, and it has more bugs, hick ups and It gets stuck more than often, even if it’s a flagship device that you’re using, it would still suffer from hick ups and slowness over time. But Android gives you the ability to control your device as you please, from the moment that you buy your Android device, it’s yours and you can change anything on it. Also for power users, Android is much better, as it can do anything, it can let you do anything on it without any interference from Google or the device Manufacture, but at the end that comes with the price of losing stability and security.

So you see, iOS is aimed toward security and stability, and Android is aimed toward flexibility, customization and giving the power to the user. Those orientations are different from one another, and it makes every of one of these OS’s special on its own way.

So

Can Android be More Like iOS?

The answer is, I don’t think so, from one point of view this is something hard to achieve, especially at this point and after all these years. And from another point of view, I think it will lose something, Android is Android, its special on its own way, even with its instability and flaws, it’s still makes a good no great OS, and it that way it will always be a competitor to iOS.
